Living Coral offers 2019 a light-hearted expression for design inspiration

It’s not quite Orange, and it’s a little too warm to be Pink. It’s called Living Coral and it has been announced by the Pantone Color Institute as 2019’s Color for the Year. Described as “an animated, life-affirming shade of Orange with golden undertones,” the color’s vibrant shade offers a sense of bright boldness and heartwarming comfort. According to Pantone, the color comes at a time in our ever evolving society where the intense buzz of the digital world interlocks with our lives. The color is meant to re-establish connection and intimacy, and encourage ‘light-hearted activity.’

Living Coral gets its bright buoyancy from the tiny algae living on its surface, significant of its origin deep beneath the sea. The fashion, entertainment and art circles, as well as all aspects of design have already seen rising influences of this year’s color, and it will continue to make grand appearances in notable areas as the months swing by.

Pantone has for nearly 20 years released a color of the year, which influences any and everything that requires color from across different industries. The selection process requires thoughtful consideration and deep analysis of trends, as the institute’s experts comb the world for new color influences.
