Rotary Club of Accra elects Don Obilor as new President
The Rotary Club of Accra has elected Don Obilor as its new president, in a ceremony held recently.
Mr. Obilor formerly served as the Public Relations Officer and prior to that also served as the Sergeant @Arms of the club. An experienced brand communications consultant, Mr. Obilor is currently The Chief Executive Officer of Adams 360, a brand communications agency in Accra.
Sharing his vision for the club, the president-elect noted that to push the work of the club further and engage more in its community, there was a need for the club to be more PR-driven to foster understanding, goodwill and support the programs of the Club, which includes promoting awareness among Rotarians and generating good publicity and project a positive image to broaden Rotary’s services to humanity.
Mr. Obilor is enthusiastic about the potential of more engaged youth participation and is keen to grow the club’s reach through more youth and health programs, with a special focus on menstrual hygiene education.
“We have to regenerate the club by bringing in younger people to carry on the service that we do. So it’s going to be a busy year and we will get off on the ground and start with all the plans that we have especially in the area of menstrual health, which is a key area for me and my board. We will be looking at providing services in the area of water and sanitation. We’re also looking at disease prevention and cure,” Mr. Obilor noted.
The president-elect emphasized his determination to remain true to the Rotary theme of 2019/2020, ‘Rotary connects the world’, by further growing the club’s membership, retaining existing members and starting a new club in collaboration with Ghana Extension Committee. "With increased membership we can make more impact," he added
Mr. Obilor entreated members thus, “As I play my part in collaboration with my board, I also urge you to play your own part by serving in the capacity you have been assigned in the year. It is little drops of water that make the ocean. Your little contribution will no doubt go a long way in fulfilling the goals and objectives we have set for the year. As you are aware, the major programs of Rotary International are funded through the contributions and investments of the Rotary Foundation. We will continue to support Rotary Foundation as it is the lifeline of Rotary International.”
The Rotary Club of Accra is part of Rotary International, a service organization whose stated purpose is to bring together business and professional leaders in order to provide humanitarian service and to advance goodwill and peace around the world.
